Semester Closes On Holiday Good-Byes
Hollywood-As the first half of the school year comes to a close I am reminded of the years I have been here at Hollywood High. Those years of happiness and sorrow I have enjoyed the experience and the company of meeting new friends and helping others. Nevertheless, this time of the year brings with it a small change in the way we treat others. Why not give this treatment the whole year? Just a thought.
The semester comes to a close on a soft note। As quiet as the semester started, it time to take account of the hard work and training you has put in to prepare yourself for the final exam। B track final exam closes as we prepare to end the year and the final fall B track a Hollywood High. The tracks have served their purpose and with the new school opening, the system is set upon returning to tradition school. Students, be prepare to embark on new things.

The Educational Sin(Continue from last month)
Opinion- Every so often it comes up about needing more vocational education. I think that time is usually around election time. The educational whatever, that is running for what- ever office gets this bug to help change the way kids learn. Voc Ed is always a hot topic to chose because it involves students using their hands and minds to produce a product. It always comes down to a dream sheet.
A dream sheet list a bunch of equipment and money and items to make your shop better and up to date. Only to find in that those things will never come or come too late and be out date themselves.
Let’s stop playing this awful game. The students’ needs are important and should be met with the same vigor as any other subject. These students that seem to be the throwaways are still the backbone to America’s manufacturing. Let’s stop this educational sin.

Sheet Metal Tools:
Combination Square Set
The most commonly used layout set is the combination square set. The combination set consists of a square head, a center head, a bevel protractor head and a blade ruler. The ruler will fit all three heads. Of the three heads the square head is use the most.
Measurement can be made with angles at 45o and 90o using the square head. While the center head, because it forms a right or 90o angle, may be used to extend a line around a corner. With the ruler inserted the center can quickly be located on round stock.
The protractor head can be rotated through 180o and is graduated accordingly to any angle that can be measured. A spirit level is usually fitted into the bevel protractor and the square head making it possible to use it as a level. Next month: Chisels

Room 100 - Erica Mendez continues a trend for our second female as The Scratch Awl person this month. Born and raised mostly in Mexico City, Mexico, Erica’s family moved to the United States when she was eleven to attend school and study. Soon after a few years in America, Erica’s parents divorced. The 17-year-old Hollywood High senior has three brothers and a baby sister and has not let personal and family problems hamper her dreams of a better life.
Happy to be her last year, she taken some A.P. classes like A.P. calculus and A.P. Spanish Literature. “I want to go to a community college and transfer to an U.C.”
She says. “It’s been a long journey and it’s been hard, but everyday is a step forward to all my dreams. This is how my life has been, but I'm here living each day believing to have a better one.”
